Encountering the Ark
Reading and discovering History is a privilege. Getting to experience it for yourself is a gift.
While I may not have gone back in time, it was quite the experience!
Ark Encounter
If you’ve never heard of the Ark Encounter, then you’re missing out! If you have heard about it and are contemplating whether or not you should go, I say go! Read more to find out why.
Family Vacation
This year for Spring Break my family all flew to Kentucky. When I say family, I mean parents, brother, grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousins. There were 13 of us in all and why -you may ask- did we all fly across the country to Kentucy to spend our Spring Break. It is simple, to go to museums. My grandfather is really into creation science, dinosaurs, and the whole nine yards, so this was extra special for him. Truly doing anything as a family is special and going anywhere in a 13-passenger van is an adventure.
Before going to the ark, we went to The Creation Museum. When we pulled up, I just saw a small building and I thought, “Wow how did they fit a whole museum in there!” After paying for parking and disembarking our adventure machine, we discovered armed security guards at the entrance. To our surprise that small building was only the welcome center. You bought your tickets and maybe a souvenir or two, and you were off on your adventure! Outside it was a beautiful day and adventurous Jurassic Park like music was playing. What a fun exciting atmosphere! There was only one problem. We were missing Grandpa. Have no fear! We promptly found him in the nearby mobility service building. He got a motorized scooter, and he too was ready to go. So, we walked, or in Grandpa’s case drove, over to the actual museum. It was much larger. Personally, I feel like the fun nature walk really added to the experience, but there was much more to come! As much as I might like to, I can’t tell you about the whole museum. You would probably unsubscribe before we even got to the ark. I will share the highlights/my favorite parts. They had many different fascinating exhibits. Some of which were about Dragons, Insects, Dinosaurs, Human life from conception, and there was even a 4D theater. The museum as a whole told a story, a story of worldviews, of history and science, and of Genesis through Revelation. Most importantly the Gospel of Jesus Christ was shared. It was a bit of a long and winding journey from the top floor then all of the sudden you were on the bottom floor. Nevertheless, it was very enjoyable, and everyone learned something new. By the time we were done, we were all exhausted. Who knew Vacation could be such hard work!
Day 2 - The Ark
If you don’t know what the Ark Encounter is on their website, they describe themselves as an “Earth Creationist Theme Park.” It is Noah’s Ark rebuilt according to the dimensions in the Bible. If you don’t know what Noah’s Ark is, read the Bible. We had to drive aways, which built the anticipation. When we arrived, this time what surprised me was the giant buses. The Ark was still quite a distance from the parking lot, but that’s what the buses are for haha. I was afraid that we would have to walk all the way over there, but a fun bus ride was a nice alternative. We got a lovely family photo in front of the massive Ark.
Why am I telling you all these details? You probably don’t care, or you were there (Thank you, lovely family, for following me). Ohh well I’m enjoying this.
First stop, Ararat Zoo! I had never petted a Kangaroo before. Now I have. There were lots of cool animals there. What I liked was that it wasn’t just your normal zoo, but it had animals you don’t normally see and even an animal I didn’t know existed. There were interesting facts about each animal, and I enjoyed learning more. In all honesty I was a bit disappointed there weren’t live animals on the Ark, but there were realistic looking models. The cool thing about that was that they chose some animals that may not be quite like we have today to represent the kind. What does kind mean when referring to animals? Answers in Genesis puts it this way.
“So a good rule of thumb is that if two things can breed together, then they are of the same created kind.”
Kinds are not to be confused with species. Species is a much broader man-made term. When I mentioned to a lady at church how a horse today might look different that the horses (or representatives of the horse kind) that was on the ark, she was confused. “You’re not talking about evolution, are you?” As I explained it to her, I want to explain it to you. There are two types of evolution Macroevolution and Microevolution. Macroevolution is when one kind of animal changes into a completely different kind of animal e.g. apes to humans. Microevolution is animals changing within their kind e.g. birds getting bigger beaks or giraffes getting longer necks. As a Creationist that believes the Bible is true, I believe in Microevolution and not Macroevolution. That’s the museum’s belief and perspective as well. So, the animals on the ark could have looked vastly different than we might think. Just think about how the Felidae (cat) pair from the ark has eventually produced the cats in your back yard as well as the lions in Africa (or the zoo) and all the other cats in between. They had all of that information in their genetic code. God created animals and especially people so incredible complex and perfectly fit to live on this earth. There is so much to say and so little time to say it.
So, with this I will bring this letter to a close and leave you hanging for part two. I guess that’s a good reason to subscribe if you aren’t already! Did you know that you can subscribe for FREE. How amazing!
Don’t miss the rest of the Ark adventure! Sorry, this is a little late. If any of this piques your curiosity and you want to discuss it more, let me know. You’re amazing. Enjoy life and the great outdoor every once in a while!
